The Step Pyramid of Djoser is the oldest pyramid in Egypt . it was built about 4,700 years ago.
the king Djoser or (zoser ) (2667-2648 BC), the second king of the 3rd Dynasty.located within a large enclosed mortuary complex and originally conceived as a huge Mastaba, the tomb was gradually enlarged until it encompassed the six-
stepped structure still visible today ,rising up to a heigh of 60 m
Imhotep,a great architect of his time , The area around the tomb became a large funeral complex in honor of Djoser, 2.5 times large than the old kingdom town of HIERAKONPOLIS. The complex is 37 acres in size and is surrounded by an over 10 meters high wall, the wall contain thirteen false door,as well as one real entrance in the south east ,The entrance corridor is made of stone, but the ceiling is carved to look as if made of wood , A three ton piece of granite sealed the entrance .
North Temple and Serdab court, the northern mortuary temple was on the north side of the pyramid and faced the north stars,which the king wished to join in eternity.Serdab, a sloping wall against the pyramid is drilled with two large holes,which allow a glimse of the statue of Djoser inside (a replica; the original is in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo )
